Non-Axiomatic Term Logic: A Theory of Cognitive Symbolic Reasoning

نویسندگان

چکیده

This paper presents Non-Axiomatic Term Logic (NATL) as a theoretical computational framework of humanlike symbolic reasoning in artificial intelligence. NATL unites discrete syntactic system inspired from Aristotle's term logic and continuous semantic based on the modern idea distributed representations, or embeddings. positions proposed approach phylogeny literature logic, explains framework. As it is yet no more than theory requires much further elaboration to implement it, quantitative evaluation presented. Instead, qualitative analyses arguments using NATL, some applications possible cognitive science/robotics-related research, remaining issues towards machinery implementation are discussed.

Abduction in Non-Axiomatic Logic

This paper introduces various inference rules (deduction, abduction, and induction) in NonAxiomatic Logic. These rules are represented in a term-oriented language, and justified according to a common semantic foundation. The implementation and application of these rules are briefly described. Finally, this approach is compared with the other approaches, specially with respect to abduction.

Neural-Symbolic Cognitive Reasoning - ReadingSample

The construction of robust computational models integrating reasoning and learning is a key research challenge for artificial intelligence. Recently, this challenge was also put forward as a fundamental problem in computer science [255]. Such a challenge intersects with another long-standing entry in the research agenda of artificial intelligence: the integration of its symbolic and connectioni...

Reasoning in Non-Axiomatic Logic: A Case Study in Medical Diagnosis

Non-Axiomatic Logic (NAL) is designed for intelligent reasoning, and can be used in a system that has insufficient knowledge and resources with respect to the problems to be solved. This paper reports the result of a case study that applies NAL in medical diagnostics, and the logic is compared with binary logic and probability theory.

Non-axiomatic Reasoning System (version 2.2)

Non-Axiomatic Reasoning System (NARS) is an intelligent reasoning system, where intelligence means working and adapting with insu cient knowledge and resources. NARS uses a new form of term logic, or an extended syllogism, in which several types of uncertainties can be represented and processed, and in which deduction, induction, abduction, and revision are carried out in a uni ed format. The s...

Non-Axiomatic Reasoning System (Version 4.1)

NARS (Non-Axiomatic Reasoning System) is an intelligent reasoning system. It answers questions according to the knowledge originally provided by its user. What makes it different from conventional reasoning systems is its ability to learn from its experience and to work with insufficient knowledge and resources. The NARS 4.1 demo is a Java applet. It comes with help information and simple examp...
